Aclara AMR Solution for Submetering
Product Information
The Hexagram STAR® System provides property managers timely access to utility meter data without costly site visits. Long range, narrow band meter transmitters allow the use of a single data collector, without repeaters, to economically read both large and small submetering installations in developments, high-rises, and other multi-tenant communities.
The STAR Meter Transmission Unit (MTU) is a small, sealed module which connects to any gas meter, or any water or electric meter that provides an electronic output. Several times each day, the MTU broadcasts the meter reading and account information by way of a brief radio transmission that can be received up to several miles away.
The STAR MTU transmits meter-reading information to the STAR Data Collection Unit (DCU) which is located at a convenient location at the site. The DCU processes, time-stamps, and stores the usage information along with diagnostic information and data from other MTUs.
The STAR MTU contains a powerful, narrow band transmitter with a transmission range of several miles. Powered by a 20-year permanent battery*, STAR MTUs can be programmed to transmit meter readings from twice daily to every five minutes. The STAR system operates on a secure radio channel licensed by the FCC, providing consistent and reliable meter readings from "Every Meter, Every Day™".
STAR Gas Meter MTUs are available for installation behind the register of most residential and commercial gas meters. STAR Water Meter MTUs are compatible with all pulse and encoder water meters. STAR Electric MTUs are available integrated into electric meters. Hexagram can provide custom sensors for special meter-interface requirements, including large rotary meters.
Dual-port MTUs are available for multiple-meter installations, including gas, water, and combinations.
STAR MTUs are also available with a variety of run-time sensors for use in "allocation" installations.
STAR System Data Collector Units (DCUs) are intelligent network devices that receive, process, and store meter reading information transmitted from STAR System MTUs. STAR System DCUs forward this information, along with diagnostic data, to the STAR System Network Control Computer (NCC) typically located at a central location. DCUs employ a WiFi, cellular, landline or IP communication network for the backhaul link to the NCC.
The STAR System Network Control Computer (NCC) is a Windows PC that runs the STAR System software. It collects, validates, processes and stores meter readings transmitted by the STAR System DCUs. It provides the billing, customer service, accounting and other departments with access to timely and comprehensive account information. The STAR System also provides a complete range of management and diagnostic reports developed in response to customer needs and requirements.
